How to get started

If you are a student of one of our partner faculties and would like to study at our faculty you can apply at your home university for an Erasmus placement. If your application is successful your Erasmus coordinator will nominate you and thus let us know that you wish to come.

After your nomination you will be contacted by two different offices:

  • Central Erasmus Office, part of the International Office of the University = Institutional Erasmus Coordinator, Daniel Weiß,
located in the city centre, Sedanstraße 4, Service Center Studium
  • Erasmus Office of the Faculty = Departmental Erasmus Coordinator
Esther Muschelknautz (Erasmus coordinator), located at the faculty
    Tennenbacherstraße 4, room: 02 045,

The International Office of the University is in charge of ALL Erasmus students of Freiburg University and will navigate you through the application process via the Mobility Online Portal. Guidance will include information about administrative and practical matters like admission, enrollment, housing, German courses and orientation days. As first step, they will send you a link to register at the mobility-online-portal.

The Erasmus Office of the faculty will assist you with all academic aspects of your study visit: learning agreement, choice and booking of courses, transcript etc. Usually our first e-mail contact with you is when you send us your learning agreement for checking if the courses you have chosen are ok and for signing. But of course your are welcome to contact us also before for any questions or doubts you may have.

Language

Before applying for an Erasmus grant for Germany you should check if your language skills will be sufficient for studying. All our Bachelor courses are taught only in German. Our master courses are taught in German and English. The Language Teaching Centre (SLI) of the University of Freiburg offers free of charge language courses (grammar/speaking/writing/regional studies) for Erasmus students. Registration for courses in winter semester opens mid-September, registration for summer semester opens at the beginning of March. More details at the SLI

How to select Courses

BACHELOR LEVEL

If you are a Bachelor student of forestry or environmental sciences you can choose courses from two Bachelor programmes, both taught in German. On the websites of the programmes and in the module handbooks you can see what the programmes are about and if they offer interesting courses for you.

The excel file Courses for Exchange Students Bachelor contains all courses that are available to you. You can filter them by winter/summer semester, language or major/minor. It is a very useful tool to get an idea of what is on offer in our two Bachelor programmes. In order to make the final selection, however, it is better to use the Module Handbooks (they are updated regularly) or the Course Catalogue.

Please check for

BSc Waldwissenschaften (German)

BSc Umweltnaturwissenschaften (German)

As a Bachelor student, you are not allowed to take our Master courses, unless you are in a 4-year Bachelor programme and would be in your 4th year when you come to Freiburg.

MASTER LEVEL

The list of available courses contains all courses, from both programmes, Forst Sciences and Environmental Sciences. You can filter the list by winter/summer semester, master programme and language. It is a very useful tool to find out what is on offer in our two Master programmes. In order to make the final selection, however, to finalise your selection you should use the Module Handbooks or the Course Catalogue.

in SUMMER SEMESTER: sequence of 3-week blocks (5 ECTS/module).

Not accessible for Erasmus students: MSc Environmental Governance (MEG)
