Rules for digital communication
Electronic communication is fast and easy, but unfortunately also tempts people to send inquiries too quickly. This costs a lot of working time and means that urgent inquiries sometimes have to remain unprocessed for a longer period of time.
In the interest of everyone, please follow our "rules" for this communication channel:
- Inform yourself
You can find a lot of information on the website of the faculty and/or the programme. Most questions can be answered if you read the descriptions, guidelines and your valid examination regulation.
Further information can be found on the websites of the Student Service Center or in the course catalog (HISinONE).
- No parallel questions
Parallel inquiries always lead to additional work due to multiple processing. If a request ends up in the wrong place, we will forward it internally to the right person to answer your request.
- Send important information
In order to provide the best possible advice, each request should include the following information
Name, matriculation number, degree program, semester of study.
- Patience
We make every effort to respond to inquiries as quickly as possible, but we also have other deadlines and commitments. It is possible that a request may take a few days to be answered. Urgent requests should therefore always be made in good time.
Inability to take an examination
If you cannot take an exam because of illness or if you fall ill during the time of writing your Bachelor or Master thesis, you have to hand in an official doctor's note immediately (see your exam regulations), which states the medical reasons why you are unable to take an exam.
To avoid misunderstandings please take the form „proof of inability to take an examination“ to your doctor and ask them to fill in their part. After that, you have to submit immediately the fully completed and signed form to the examination office.

Information on disadvantage compensation for students with disabilities/chronic illnesses
Students with a disability, chronic illness or not only temporary health impairment that makes it harder from them to complete pass/fail and graded assessments can submit a request for disadvantage compensation.
Disadvantage compensation aims to ensure that the pass/fail and graded assessments can be completed under appropriate conditions and with equal opportunities. Disadvantages that students with the above-mentioned impairments have in comparison to other students when completing pass/fail and graded assessments should be compensated for as far as possible. The requirements that are part of the examination's performance profile may not be waived and there shall be no overcompensation. Measures to compensate for disadvantages must be determined individually in advance of the respective pass/fail or graded assessment.
Prerequisites for the granting of measures to compensate for disadvantages:
- Presence of a disability, chronic illness or not only temporary health impairment. In comparison to other students and under the regular conditions, the completion of pass/fail and graded assessments is more difficult, due to the impairment.
- The requirements of the pass/fail or graded assessment are not changed by the measures to compensate for disadvantages.
Examples of disadvantage compensation:

Separate room during the exam
Extension of submission deadlines
Use of technical aids
Form and content of the request:
The request must be submitted in writing to the departmental examination committee (in bachelor's and master's degree programs) or to the respective Dean of Studies (in state examination programs).
It should contain as precise information as possible about the specific restrictions on the completion of the respective pass/fail or graded assessment and about the requested measures. A medical certificate must be submitted with the request, clearly stating the health impairments and the resulting restrictions on the completion of pass/fail and graded assessments.
Both are the basis for the assessment carried out by the subject departmental examination committee as to whether and which measures of disadvantage compensation can be granted. It is therefore necessary that the impairments and limitations are described in sufficient detail in the medical certificate to enable the examination committee to make an assessment and appropriate decision on suitable measures to compensate for disadvantages without further enquiries.
The request must be submitted together with the examination registration or at the latest one month before the respective pass/fail or graded assessment.
